El Árbol Azul is a company founded by filmmakers Joanna Lombardi Pollarolo and Francisco J. Lombardi. In 2009, the script for the feature film Casadentro won the Ibermedia award for Cinematographic Project Development, followed by the Production Award granted by Conacine. In 2011, Casadentro won the distribution award from the same institution. In 2012, the company produced its first feature film CASADENTRO, which won the Golden Zenith and the FIPRESCI award at the Montreal World Film Festival. The film was shown at numerous festivals, including the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the 37th São Paulo International Film Festival (MOSTRA), among others.
In 2014, the company completed shooting its second feature film Solos in the Peruvian jungle. That same year, the film won the Post-Production award granted by DAFO of the Ministry of Culture, completing its funding. Solos had its world premiere at the prestigious Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR) in January 2015 as part of the "Cinema of the Future" section. It went on to screen at various festivals around the world: Moscow, the Lima Film Festival—where it received a special mention—Viña del Mar Film Festival in Chile—where it also received a special mention—among others.
In 2016, the company developed the project Panza de Burro, which was selected to participate in the Co-Production Forum of the San Sebastián Film Festival, and later, in 2018, won the Ibermedia Fund.
In 2017, it began developing its first documentary project, Quédate Quieto, which won the award in the National Competition for Documentary Feature Film Projects organized by DAFO, Ministry of Culture of Peru. The film required several years of work and was completed in 2023. Its European premiere was in the official competition at the Málaga Film Festival 2024 (Spain), and its Latin American premiere will take place in the official competition at the Guadalajara Film Festival in June 2024 (Mexico).
In 2022, the company produced its first film for Netflix Worldwide, Soltera Codiciada 2. The film premiered successfully in theaters in July 2023 in Peru and then in Argentina before its worldwide release on Netflix in September 2023.
